Today you will be looking at the 2010 Olympics. You can work on the following questions alone or in pairs.
The Olympics is essentially a Brand Name. In order to protect the brand VANOC (Vancouver Olympic Committee) has Trade Marked the words Olympic, Olympics, and 2010 Olympics in Vancouver and Whistler.
1. What does Trademark mean?
2. What implications does this have for local and large businesses in Vancouver and Whistler?
With each Olympics, they release new mascots (Icons). These are meant to enhance the games and allow marketers to target children and families.
3. What are the 3 (4) icons for the 2010 Olympics? Include pictures

With each Olympics, they create unique medals.
5. What makes these 2010 medals unique?
6. Are the medals designed to reflect Canada? How?
Each Olympics the Canadian Athletes get new uniforms. They were released a while ago to a mixed reaction. They are designed to be worn by the athletes but also to be sold to the public for profit. Go on-line and find some pictures of them.
7. Since these are designed to be sold to the public, which target market/ demographic groups are they trying to sell to?
8. Do you think that the design will sell and be a success or a failure, explain?
